The project was a result of frontman and producer Tomas Kalnoky departing his previous band, Catch 22. The album is somewhat conceptual, with a strong undertone of suicide throughout as the narrator attempts to calm down a girl called Annie from killing herself in songs like A Better Place, A Better Time and PointCounterpoint. It also deals with themes of mortality and revolutionary mentality. Everything Goes Numb earned significant critical acclaim and is of. Everything Goes Numb is the debut studio album by American ska punk band Streetlight Manifesto, released on August 26, 2003. The album has since acquired a cult following among fans of the Third Wave Ska movement. This is the first full-length album frontman and vocalist Tomas Kalnoky participated in since leaving the ska-punk band Catch 22. The track If and When We Rise Again quotes. The band does prove itself able to concoct a variety of rhythms and arrangements within the ska-punk format, the accelerations and decelerations adding some drama, the horns adding some spy movie-like creepiness at times, and the frequent use of minor keys distinguishing Streetlight Manifesto melodically from some of the group's competition.
