Produced and engineered at Forking Paths Studios.
All drumset recordings were done at Coast (RIP) SF, except Dolorous Stroke drums (and bass), recorded at Found Sound SF.
All mixing was done at Forking Paths. Forking Paths is a laptop computer, three mics, three mic pre's and a few compressors.
Tim Smolens, Timb Harris, Jason Schimmel and John Wooley were recorded at Rohypnol Studios 911. Fatima was recorded at Feast or Famine SF, courtesy of Jai Young Kim. Shamou was recorded at Littlefield Pipe Organ Chamber, Los Altos Hills, CA. Eyvind Kang and Heifetz percussion parts were recorded in various bedrooms, and at the "old" Forking Paths. William Winant was recorded at Mills College, Oakland, CA. Two-inch tape transfers were done at Storey Street Music, Santa Cruz, CA.

Recording began in the year 1378 and ended in the year 2001.

Secret Chiefs 3 or SC3 is an avant-garde group led by guitaristcomposer Trey Spruance formerly of Mr. Bungle and Faith No More. Their studio recordings and tours have featured different line-ups, as the group performs a wide range of musical styles, mostly instrumental, including surf rock, Persian, Arab, Indian, death metal, film music, electronic music, and various others. Book M is mostly the brainchild of masterful guitarist Trey Spruance, as bassist Trevor Dunn was absent for a great deal of the project, probably having something to do with his involvement in the wickedly genius Fantomas. Book M is mostly made up of IndianAsian-sounding melodies overlayed with wildly cavorting techno rhythms and a tiny bit of metal, infused with a sense of mystery and paranoia from the thematic artwork based on number theory and assumedly Hindu belief systems.
