Omer Victor Simeon July 21, 1902 September 17, 1959 was an American jazz clarinetist. He also played soprano, alto, and baritone saxophone and bass clarinet. The son of a cigar maker, Omer Simeon was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. His family moved to Chicago, Illinois. He learned clarinet from the New Orleans musician Lorenzo Tio, Jr. and started playing professionally in 1920. Also on the set are the two selections that Omer Simeon recorded as a leader in 1929 with Earl Hines on piano, four songs from the Dixie Rhythm Kings a septet without Reeves that also features Simeon, and the only other session that Reeves led, a four-song big band date from 1933. Reuben River Reeves spent a year with Cab Calloways orchestra, led his own band in Chicago during 1933-35, freelanced in New York, and was still playing on a part-time basis up until his death in 1955. Reuben Reeves & Omer Simeon RST Records, 25 selections, TT 77:01. Omer Simeon was from New Orleans but played most of his jazz in Chicago where , it can be argued, the only real New Orleans sound was recorded after the closing of Storyville. Omer Simeon performed with various great jazz musicians of the 1920s including Jelly Roll Morton and King Oliver. There are 2 tracks with the Dixie Rhythm Kings where a second version of The Chant is almost unrecognisable from the initial Jelly Roll Morton, but the Congo Love Song provides a glimpse of future jungle sound dance music. Omer Victor Simeon was an American jazz clarinetist. In 1927 he joined King Olivers Dixie Syncopators with whom he moved to New York City. After time back in Chicago with Elgar, he joined the Luis Russell in Manhattan, then again returned to Chicago in 1928 to play with the Erskine Tate Orchestra
