Album
Jeffrey Osborne is the self-titled debut album from Jeffrey Osborne, released in 1982 on A&M after leaving . for a solo career. After Osborne departed from . in 1980, legal issues prevented him from signing his solo deal with A&M for a whole year. After signing to A&M as a solo artist, Osborne began work on his debut album. The album reached number 49 on the Billboard 200 albums chart along with three singles, On the Wings of Love, I Really Don't Need No Light and Eenie Meenie peaking. Five decades into a genre-crossing career, Jeffrey Osborne offers his first album of original material in 15 years on Worth It All. The richly deep-toned vocalist started out on the drum set during his teenage years, but by the time he joined then-simmering soul outfit . in the early 70s, the way was paved for his dynamic pipes to shine on. Ranking up there with Osbornes George Duke-produced balladry of the early 80s, the assuring Saving My Love crystallizes with a sensitively honed melody and vocal delivery that is rare to happen upon these days. Its understated in essence, yet powerful in its lasting effect. Jeffrey Osborne - Jeffrey Osborne. Unlike countless other acts who did the same thing, his self-titled release proves that it was a great decision. Producer George Duke offered Osborne an up-to-the-minute sound with a collection of great studio players ranging from drummer Steve Ferrone to bassist Louis Johnson. That being said, a few of the tracks here don't play to Osborne's strengths as a committed and slightly quirky vocalist. After such George Duke-produced R&Bpop hits on A&M as On the Wings of Love and The Borderlines, Jeffrey Osborne's Arista debut, Only Human, was Osborne.
